Anokiwave showcasing portfolio of 37/39GHz silicon ICs for 5G networks at IMS
As the commercial launch of 5G services rapidly approaches and in anticipation of the 37/39GHz US FCC auction later this year, Anokiwave Inc of San Diego, CA, USA – which provides highly integrated silicon core chips and III-V front-end integrated circuits for millimeter-wave (mmW) markets and active antenna-based solutions – is showcasing its portfolio of 37/39GHz ICs for 5G applications at the IEEE’s International Microwave Symposium (IMS 2019) in Boston, MA, USA (2–9 June), where it is exhibiting in booth #223 and participating in the 5G summit.
The 3GPP n260 band (37–40)GHz provides the largest contiguous spectrum available for 5G wireless service in the mmWave bands. Accordingly, 5G carriers in the USA will rely on this band for their initial 5G deployments and telecom companies are expected to make large investments to gain access to this spectrum.
Anokiwave introduced its initial family of 37/39GHz beam-former ICs in 2017, followed by 3GPP-compliant ICs in 2018, and is building on these generations with a full RF signal chain that improves performance, reduces cost and provides a host of digital functionality that simplifies the active antenna array design. The AWMF-0159 Tx/Rx beam-former IC supports dual-polarization architectures while adding new and enhanced features to make 3GPP-compliant performance even easier, while the AWMF-0161 up/down-converter IC provides frequency conversion functionality and a x4 LO multiplier all integrated into a single IC.
“Utilizing a 300mm silicon CMOS process, our ICs provide the optimum balance of low cost and high-performance,” reckons chief systems architect David Corman. “The system architecture behind the family allows multiple use cases, ranging from infrastructure to consumer equipment,” he adds. “With over five years of focused innovation, three generations of ICs, and significant quantities of 5G ICs delivered, Anokiwave is making mmW 5G a commercial reality.”
