Epistar expands LED capacity

LED maker Epistar Corp of Hsinchu, Taiwan has placed a third multiple order for MOCVD systems from Aixtron of Aachen, Germany. The order was placed in Q4/2007, and includes both multiple CRIUS Close Coupled Showerhead (CCS) reactors and AIX 2800G4 HT Planetary Reactor systems for volume production of GaN-based LEDs.

Aixtron says that the latest order, along with a multiple order announced last October, made Epistar the single largest individual system investor in Q4/2007.

Dr. Ming-Jiunn Jou, executive vice president of Epistar, said: "Once again Epistar is favoring Aixtron Group MOCVD process technology and equipment for the next stage in planning for production capacity expansion. Our two companies have worked together for over a decade in perfecting the application of MOCVD to the challenges of manufacturing high volume, cost competitive UHB LEDs.”
