Avago launches small-footprint 3W LEDs with 160lm flux output for solid-state lighting

Avago Technologies of San Jose, CA, USA has launched what it claims is one of the smallest high-brightness 3-Watt LEDs for solid-state lighting applications. The ASMT-Jx3x is packaged in a small outline package (SOP) with a small footprint and low profile (5mm by 4mm by 1.85mm thick), suiting lighting applications where space is constrained, e.g. portable lighting appliances, street lighting, architectural facade lighting, retail display lighting, backlighting and specialty lighting.

Despite its compact size, the ASMT-Jx3x provides a wide viewing angle of up to 165º for designs that require good color and light output uniformity in lighting applications. It can also handle high thermal and drive currents. By delivering a high flux output of up to 160 lumens at a drive current of 700mA, the LED has a maximum allowable junction temperature of 135ºC and high electrostatic discharge (ESD) resistance of 16kV, so special ESD protection equipment is not required for handling the LED during installation. Moreover, the LED is compatible with standard SMT reflow soldering processes, helping to lower design cost while providing greater freedom and flexibility in lighting design.

ASMT-Jx3x LEDs are available in the full range of colors (i.e. red, red orange, amber, green, blue, royal blue, cool white, neutral white and warm white), priced at $1.84 each in 1000-piece quantities.
