Picometrix inks agreement to supply 40G optical receivers

Picometrix LLC (an Advanced Photonix company) of Ann Arbor, MI, USA is to supply 40G balanced optical receivers to a ‘leading manufacturer’ of optical subsystems, for incorporation into next generation transponders supporting long-haul telecommunication networks. Picometrix did not name the customer, but did say that revenue from the deal should exceed $1m in the current fiscal year.

Under the terms of the agreement, Picometrix will supply line-side DQPSK optical receivers, based on patented photodiode, amplifier and component packaging technologies. The firm’s optical receivers will be incorporated into the customer's 40G transponders, which will be deployed throughout the networks of telecommunication service providers.

"Even in these challenging economic times, the demand for bandwidth is still increasing at a rapid rate driven by bandwidth intensive video applications, such as IP-HDTV," says Robin Risser, president and general manager of Picometrix. "These video applications require the next-generation of high bandwidth infrastructure to effectively deliver these services to locations across the globe…”.
