Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer selects RFMD’s GPS LNA module

RF Micro Devices (RFMD) Inc of Greensboro, NC, USA says it has been selected to supply its RF2815 GPS LNA module to a Taiwan-based manufacturer of smartphones. The customer's name was not disclosed.

Due to launch in the second half of calendar 2009 in North America, the dual-band CDMA device will feature a leading open source mobile operating system, says RFMD.

Introduced in February this year, the RF2815 is a GPS LNA module with an integrated filter designed for GPS-enabled CDMA mobile devices. It integrates a low noise-figure LNA, SAW filter and supporting components in a 3.3 x 2.1 x 1.0 mm module.

Paul Augustine, general manager of RFMD's Component Solutions Business Unit, said, "Today's smartphones and battery-powered multimedia devices are increasingly featuring robust GPS functionality and location-based services. RFMD's RF2815 is well positioned to satisfy the technical requirements of this expanding market segment, which demands small solution size and energy efficient solutions. Our wide technology base and RF multi-chip module (MCM) capabilities enable RFMD to support high performance cellular front end discrete product opportunities and provide our customers a performance advantage over fully integrated CMOS solutions."
