Opnext to demo first error-free OTU4 transmission over 10km SMF at 111.8Gbps line rate

At the 36th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communications (ECOC 2010) in Turin, Italy next week (20-22 September), Opnext Inc will debut live demonstrations highlighting key optics technologies, including:

  • The industry's first demonstration of error-free OTU4 transmission over 10km single-mode fiber (SMF) at 111.8Gbps line rate (involving an Opnext 100GE/OTU4 dual-rate CFP module interfacing to the Anritsu MD1260A 40/100G Ethernet Analyzer to simulate OTU4 traffic);
  • A 40GBASE-LR4 transceiver module transporting 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40GbE), but also capable of running OTU3 traffic.

A separate display will also highlight Opnext’s lineup of 40G optical devices, which the firm reckons is the industry's broadest product portfolio of client- and line-side solutions, spanning from 40G VSR, 300-pin MSA transceivers that offer compact size and reduced power dissipation for high-density platform applications to 40G DPSK and DQPSK transponders for metro, regional and long-haul applications. A 40G 300-pin PMDC module that allows DPSK signals to tolerate higher levels of optical polarization mode dispersion (PMD) will also be displayed. Each of the 40G modules adhere to industry-standard interfaces and industry MSAs (multi-source agreements).

Opnext is also participating in multiple technical sessions during ECOC, including:

  • ‘Algorithms for Coding, Detection and Impairment Mitigation in Coherent Transmission Systems‘, Sunday 19 September; and
  • 100G Market Update and Forecast, during the ‘Techno-Economic Aspects and Scenarios for the Deployment of 100 Gbs Coherent Systems‘, Tuesday 21 September.
