First Solar recruits chief financial officer

First Solar Inc of Tempe, AZ, USA, which makes thin-film photovoltaic (PV) modules based on cadmium telluride (CdTe) as well as providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services, says that Mark Widmar is to join it on 4 April as chief financial officer (CFO), responsible for global financial operations. He will succeed James Zhu, who has been interim CFO since 1 January. Zhu will retain his role as chief accounting officer.

Widmar was previously CFO and president of the Engineered Solutions segment at Graftech International Ltd, a global manufacturer of carbon and graphite materials. Prior to joining Graftech in 2006, he worked at NCR Corp from 2003 as corporate controller and a business unit CFO. Before that he was a division controller for Dell Inc and a business unit CFO for Lucent Technologies. Widmar earned a B.S. in business accounting and an M.B.A. in finance from Indiana University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

“Mark brings nearly 25 years of experience in finance, accounting and controlling to First Solar,” says First Solar’s CEO Rob Gillette. “Mark’s expertise and his track record of delivering results make him the right leader for our finance organization,” he comments.
