Smit Ovens sees strong sales of thermal tools for for CIGS and CdTe PV production

Smit Ovens of Ekkersrijt, the Netherlands says that, so far in 2011, it has seen strong sales growth for its thermal solutions for high-volume thin-film solar production. The firm has sealed deals for 16 atmospheric-pressure thermal tools for cadmium telluride (CdTe) PV production, making it the market leader with the largest installed equipment base in this field, it is reckoned.

Smit Ovens has also sold four of its second-generation in-line selenization tools for copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) PV production in 2011. The firm says that this new generation reflects its commitment to continuing development of this technology. Working closely with customers, it aims to create solutions that give manufacturers full control over the production process.

“We believe that thin-film solar has a great future. And our deals with leading companies show that they share our belief that now is the time to invest in this technology,” says CEO Wiro Zijlmans. “The challenge for manufacturers is to move into high volumes with consistently high yields,” he adds. “We’ve proven that our thermal systems and processes can deliver this vital high performance for industrial production.”

Smit Ovens foresees continued strong sales in this sector, with a book-to-bill ratio of more than 2 in September.

The firm is exhibiting in Hall A4, stand B22, at the 26th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC 2011) in Hamburg, Germany this week (5–8 September).
