GigOptix to showcase 40G and 100G TFPS modulators and drivers at OFC/NFOEC

GigOptix Inc of San Jose, CA, USA (which supplies semiconductor and optical components including modulator and laser drivers and transimpedance amplifier ICs based on III-V materials), is to showcase its full portfolio of Telcordia-qualified, production Thin Film Silicon on Polymer (TFPS) Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZMs) in addition to its 40G and 100G drivers at OFC/NFOEC 2012 (Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference) in Los Angeles, CA (6-8 March).

In booth 1233, GigOptix will provide demonstrations and showcase the following Bundled Solutions and products:

  • LX8220: 40G DQPSK TFPS optical modulator with low drive voltage and small form factor designed for long-haul and ultra-long-haul optical transponders;
  • LX8240: 100G DP-QPSK TFPS optical modulator with ultra-small form factor and low drive voltage;
  • GX62255: low-power, integrated dual-channel 32Gb/s driver designed for 40G DQPSK and 100G DP-QPSK long-haul optical transmitters;
  • HXT/R4101A: chipset enabling sub-250mW 10Gb/s short-reach SFP+ transceivers; and
  • HXT/R5104: high-performance chipset used in both 40GBASE-SR4 QSFP transceivers and 40GBASE-LR4 ROSAs.

Also in the OFC/NFOEC 2012 conference, Dr Raluca Dinu, VP & general manager of the firm’s Optics Product Line, will present ‘Small Form Factor Thin Film Polymer Modulators for Telecom Applications’ on 5 March (4pm Pacific Time), with an emphasis on the following aspects of GigOptix’s proprietary TFPS technology:

  • high reliability: GigOptix’s electro-optic polymer compliance with the telecom industry’s reliability standard for stable operation over 25 years at the temperature of 85C;
  • small size: TFPS’ material properties enable the production of 40G and 100G modulator optical chips in similar small footprints leading to the end-solution modulator package being similar in size for all speeds and formats; and
  • cost efficiency and volume capability: TFPS’ modulator production leverages standard high-volume silicon manufacturing techniques to enable cost efficiencies normally associated with silicon wafer processing in addition to its volume production capability
