DOE Advanced Research Projects Agency issues $150m funding opportunity

The US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA-E) has announced a $150m funding opportunity that may be of interest to the solid-state lighting community.

Anticipated to be split between 60-80 awards of $250,000 to $10m each, the open funding opportunity (solicitation number DE-FOA-0000670) is open to all transformational energy technologies. Those eligible include for-profit entities, non-profit entities, and educational institutions. Foreign entities may also apply, but work must be performed by affiliates incorporated in the USA. Notices of intent are due by 30 March, and concept papers are due by 12 April.

ARPA-E's mission is to identify and fund research to translate science into breakthrough energy technologies that are too risky for the private sector and that, if successfully developed, will create the foundation for entirely new industries.
