CIGS PV firm Ascent Solar named Bye Aerospace development partner

Ascent Solar Technologies Inc of Thornton, CO, USA, which manufactures lightweight thin-film photovoltaic modules based on copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) using flexible substrate materials, has been named a development partner of Bye Aerospace Inc for aircraft programs for the aerospace and defense markets. Founded in 2007 and based near Denver, Bye is applying clean energy solutions to aircraft designs for the aerospace and defense markets.

Bye Aerospace’s chairman & CEO George Bye notes that solar energy is a key component to several of his firm’s programs. “One concept currently in development - the Silent Guardian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) - relies on thin-film solar photovoltaics (PV), stored electric power and other technologies to enhance its potential for long endurance, quiet operations and low emissions,” he says. “With Ascent Solar as a development partner, our development time should improve drastically,” Bye adds.

“Ascent Solar’s transformational technology enables renewable power generation in aircraft applications while adding minimal weight to the vehicle,” says Ascent’s president & CEO Victor Lee.
