Peregrine adds QFN-packaged RF switches to AEC-Q100-certified automotive product portfolio
Peregrine Semiconductor Corp of San Diego, CA, USA – a fabless provider of radio-frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) based on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) – has launched two UltraCMOS RF switches that expand its existing portfolio of solutions for automotive applications. The PE423422 and PE423641 are the newest components to join the PE42359 in meeting the AEC-Q100 requirements for Grade 2 (i.e. qualification for operation in the temperature range of -40°C to +105°C). The PE423422 and PE423641 are designed for automotive infotainment and traffic safety applications, such as multi-mode compenser modules for infotainment systems and emergency communication systems.
"From GPS navigation systems to automatic driving assistance programs, today's automobiles demand an increasing amount of RF semiconductor content," says Kinana Hussain, director of product marketing. "Our entire automotive product portfolio is well suited to handle the demands of the rigorous automotive environment. Peregrine's automotive products deliver exceptional ESD protection and the repeatability and reliability of the UltraCMOS manufacturing process," he claims.
Peregrine has an established history of working with automotive original design manufacturers (ODMs). Last November, it announced its acceptance as a technical committee member on the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) — the organization that provides common part-qualification and quality-system standards (such as the AEC-Q100) for the automotive electronics industry.
The PE423422 and PE423641 meet AEC-Q100 Grade 2 automotive-application certification. The RF switches feature high ESD ratings for high reliability and longer product life (important for automotive applications, because warranty repairs can be costly for manufacturers).
The PE423422 is a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) RF switch that accommodates a frequency range between 100MHz and 6GHz with a high linearity of 73.5dBm IIP3. It also has a high isolation of 44dB @ 1GHz, 29dB @ 3GHz and 20dB @ 5GHz. The low insertion loss of 0.25dB @ 1GHz, 0.40dB @ 3GHz, 0.65dB @ 5GHz and 0.90dB @ 6GHz helps make the switch suitable for automotive applications. Finally, it delivers ESD ratings of 1kV HBM, 200V MM and 1kV CDM on all pins. Offered in a RoHS-compliant, 12-lead 2mm x 2mm QFN package, the PE423422 is priced at $1.07 each for 10,000 quantity orders.
The PE423641 is a single-pole four-throw (SP4T) RF switch that accommodates a frequency range between 50MHz to 3GHz with high linearity of 68dBm IIP3. It also has a high isolation of 32dB @ 1GHz and 25dB @ 2.2GHz and a low insertion loss of 0.50dB @ 1GHz and 0.65dB @ 2.2GHz. The ESD ratings are 2kV HBM, 100V MM and 1kV CDM on all pins. Offered in a RoHS-compliant, 16-lead 3mm x 3mm QFN, the PE423641 is priced at $1.12 each for 10,000 quantity orders.
