Riber's Q1 revenue up 51% year-on-year

For first-quarter 2015, Riber S.A. of Bezons, France, which manufactures molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) systems as well as evaporation sources and effusion cells, has reported revenue of €2.7m, up 51% on €1.8m a year ago. Of total revenue, 25% came from Europe, 70% from Asia and 5% from the USA.

MBE Systems revenue was €1.5m (two research MBE systems), compared with nothing in first-quarter 2014. Sales of services, accessories and cells collectively were €1.2m, down 31% on €1.8m a year ago, reflecting the weaker commercial performance with industrial clients and the deferred rollout of the action plan in the USA, following the acquisition of MBE Control Solutions of Santa Barbara, CA, USA at the end of March. Specifically, revenue for Services & Accessories was €0.9m, down 38% on €1.5m a year ago, while revenue for Cells & Sources was roughly flat at about €0.3m.

Following a high level of system orders in fourth-quarter 2014, Riber had a sluggish Q1/2015 in preparation for a reverse trend in second-quarter 2015. Regarding organic light-emitting diode (OLED) flat-screen markets, orders for prototype equipment are progressing in line with industry expectations, says Riber.

At the end of March, the order book totalled €4.5m (down 32% on €6.6m a year ago). This includes €2.6m for four research systems (down 43% on €4.5m a year ago). Excluding any contribution by MBE Control Solutions, orders for Services & Accessories were €1.3m (down 35% on €2m a year ago). Orders for Cells & Sources were €0.7m (up on €0.2m a year ago), including prototype equipment for industrial clients in South Korea in the OLED sector.
