Guerrilla RF launches high-power, low-noise amplifier for linear transmit driver amplifiers and multi-stage LNAs spanning 700-3800MHz

Guerrilla RF Inc of Greensboro, NC, USA, which provides monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) to wireless infrastructure original equipment manufacturers, has introduced the GRF5020 as the newest member of its family of high-power, low-noise amplifiers (Power-LNAs).

Housed in 3.0mm x 3.0mm x 0.55mm 16-pin plastic QFN package, the new GRF5020 Power-LNA yields OP1dB (output 1dB compression point) to +28.5dBm, high OIP3 (output third-order intercept point) values to +50dBm and a sub-1dB noise figure (NF). In addition to use as a power amplifier (PA) or linear transmit driver amplifier, it is suited to demanding first-, second- or third-stage LNA applications requiring high linearity, ruggedness and low NF. The device can cover a frequency range of 1700-2700MHz with a single match and can be tuned to cover 700-3800MHz. Simple matching, flexible supply voltages and adjustable bias current allow for optimum efficiency and device reuse within a design and across multiple platforms.

GRF5020 samples and evaluation boards are available now, with full production scheduled for second-quarter 2015. Pricing is $3.22 each in 10,000-unit quantities.

"Over the coming months, we will be adding several new parts to this family which will push the output power capability beyond 1W and provide frequency coverage to 6.0GHz to support demanding 802.11ac PA applications," says Alan Ake, VP of applications and technical marketing. "Currently, the Power-LNA product family facilitates the creation of rugged, high-linearity, ultra-low noise figure architectures that are essential for today's challenging LTE system requirements," he adds.

According to Research and Markets, the overall wireless network infrastructure market will increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 5%, accounting for over $104bn in annual spending by the end of 2020.
