Ovum ranks Infinera top data-center interconnect supplier for Internet content providers

Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical network systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs), says that, in its recently released report 'Optical Networks Market Share: Data Center Interconnect Application 4Q14', technology research firm Ovum has ranked it the number-one supplier of data-center interconnect (DCI) platforms to Internet content providers (ICPs) and carrier neutral providers (CNPs) worldwide in 2014. It also ranked Infinera as the fastest-growing DCI equipment supplier worldwide.

"The data-center interconnect market is a rapidly growing segment for optical network equipment providers. We expect this market to reach $2.4bn by 2019," says Ovum principal analyst Ron Kline. "Our recent data show that 2015 is shaping up to be a very exciting year as metro-optimized 100G enters the DCI market," he adds.

"Cloud and data-center networks today are driven by a strong need for massive scalability while maintaining simplicity," says Stu Elby, senior VP, Cloud Network Strategy and Technology, at Infinera. "Purpose-built products like the Infinera Cloud Xpress, which has been shipping since December 2014, along with our flagship DTN-X set the standard by which Cloud networks are being built across both metro and long haul," he adds.
