Qorvo unveils hybrid GaN/GaAs point-to-point power amplifier family

Qorvo Inc of Greensboro, NC and Hillsboro, OR, USA, a provider of RF solutions for mobile, infrastructure and aerospace/defense applications, has launched a family of hybrid gallium nitride (GaN)/gallium arsenide (GaAs) power amplifiers optimized to extend the reach and address the explosion of higher data throughput required for the point-to-point radio link market.

"Wireless infrastructure customers increasingly require higher-power amplifiers to expand data throughput and enable longer point-to-point connections," says Gorden Gook, general manager of Qorvo's Transport business unit. "Qorvo's newest hybrid GaN/GaAs power amplifier product portfolio draws upon 30 years of leadership in advanced GaAs and GaN process technologies to help advance the commercial wireless infrastructure market," he adds.

The TGA2752-SM, TGA2753-SM and TGA2760-SM family utilizes the benefits of both GaN and GaAs technologies to deliver up to 16W of output power, as required by the evolving needs of the point-to-point market.

The TGA2752-SM operates at frequencies of 7.1-8.5GHz, the TGA2753-SM at 5.9-7.7GHz, and the TGA2760-SM at 9.5-12GHz. With its unique packaging design, both the TGA2752-SM and TGA2753-SM are available in a low-cost, surface-mount 7mm x 9mm QFN package, suited to point-to-point radio and C-band linear satellite communications. The higher-frequency TGA2760-SM is available in an 8mm x 10mm package. Qorvo's hybrid power amplifier products are sampling now.

Qorvo showcased its power amplifiers at the 2015 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (IMS) in Phoenix, Arizona (18-21 May). The firm also offers an extensive portfolio of voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), driver amplifiers, upconverters and downconverters for the commercial wireless infrastructure market.
