Cree expands into industrial high-bay luminaire applications with HXB Series

LED chip, lamp and lighting fixture maker Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA has launched the HXB Series LED high-bay luminaire, which is claimed to be the first of its kind to operate in extreme ambient temperatures spanning -40F to +149F and delivering output of 70,000 lumens at a luminous efficacy of up to 140 lumens per watt (LPW). The luminaire can be mounted at heights of 30 feet or more, and comes with optical options including flood and aisle distributions. The HXB High Bay Series brings Cree technology to new applications such as cold-storage spaces with sub-zero temperatures and high-heat climates like warehouses and airplane hangars.

"The HXB Series redefines the high-bay category with extraordinary rated lifetimes and industry-leading lumens per watt even in extreme operating temperatures that are found in distribution centers, gymnasiums and field house applications," claims David Elien, senior VP, lighting.

The HXB Series withstands freezing cold and severe heat, all at less than half the weight and double the warranty of competing LED high-bay fixtures, it is claimed. It is engineered for 100,000 hours of use, with a virtually maintenance-free design, zero re-strike time and lightweight construction. A unique aluminium-bonded zipper fin heat-sink provides what is claimed to be unmatched thermal management for long lifetime and exceptional efficacy in extreme operating temperatures. With less material than cast aluminium heat-sinks, the HXB Series is half the weight of competing luminaires, it is reckoned, allowing easier installation.

The series is available with output options of 35,000 or 70,000 lumens, offering one-for-one replacement of 500W and 1000W HID (high-intensity discharge) luminaires at color temperatures of 3500K, 4000K or 5000K at up to and beyond 80 CRI (color rendering index). It is designed for simple installation with a universal mounting system, all wrapped in a unique two-piece impact-resistant polycarbonate glare shield (available in translucent or opaque) with an optional uplight feature.

The new HXB Series LED high-bay luminaire is available to order now, sold through Cree lighting sales channels throughout the USA and Canada.
