MACOM Technology Solutions Holdings Inc of Lowell, MA, USA (which makes semiconductors, components and subassemblies for RF, microwave, millimeter-wave and lightwave applications) has added to its high-performance RF switch portfolio with new gallium arsenide (GaAs)-based SPDT (single-pole double-throw) MASW Series switches that provide what is claimed to be best-in-class broadband frequency coverage and high-speed switching capability, optimized for SatCom, 5G wireless, test & measurement (T&M), electronic warfare (EW) and microwave radio applications.

“These new switches leverage our patented low-gate-lag GaAs process,” says Graham Board, senior director of product marketing. “This technology will not only allow us to deliver best-in-class RF performance but also fast switching speeds, which is critical in TDD [time division duplexing] systems.”

The new MASW-011105 SPDT reflective switch, offered in a lead-free 3mm, 14-lead QFN surface-mount plastic package, covers the 17.7–31GHz frequency range, with low insertion loss of 1.6dB, high isolation at 30dB and switching speed of 12ns.

The new MASW-011107 SPDT non-reflective switch, offered in 1.3mm x 0.85mm x 0.1mm bare die format, covers the DC–26.5GHz frequency range, with low insertion loss of 1.3dB, high isolation at 46dB and switching speed of 20ns when operating at 20GHz.

Both devices are fabricated via robust processes with full surface passivation aimed at ensuring high performance and high reliability.

MACOM is showcasing its RF technology portfolio in booth #1125 at the IEEE’s International Microwave Symposium (IMS 2018) in Philadelphia (12–14 June). The firm’s booth features new product solutions optimized for 5G connectivity, base-stations, SatCom, test & measurement, ISM (industrial, scientific & medical) and radio communications.
