pSemi appoints VP of intellectual property and licensing
Murata company pSemi Corp of San Diego, CA, USA (formerly Peregrine Semiconductor Corp) – a fabless provider of radio-frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) based on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) – has appointed Rajappan ‘BG’ Balagopal as VP of intellectual property (IP) and licensing, driving strategic development and management of its patent portfolio.
Balagopal has over 20 years of broad experience in IP management, including strategy, valuation, supply chain management, general legal counseling, business development and transactions. He has supervised interdisciplinary teams of attorneys, technologists and business professionals to solve complex IP problems, generate IP revenues and reduce IP costs and risks for large and small companies. Balagopal has also held numerous high-level positions, including VP of technology IP management at The Walt Disney Company and director of patent & technology transactions at Intel Corp. Prior to joining pSemi, he ran an IP law and business consulting practice, serving diverse clients in industrial equipment, consumer products, semiconductors, communications, media and software.
“His substantial IP experience will bolster our commitment to growing and defending pSemi’s patent portfolio,” says CEO Jim Cable.
“It is great to get back to my roots in semiconductors at a time when 5G is on the horizon and IP business models are also undergoing fundamental change,” says Balagopal.
