Lextar launching new mini-LED product series and 5.1” AM micro-LED display

Following what it claims was its industry-leading mass production of mini-LED backlighting last year, vertically integrated LED firm Lextar Electronics Corp (a subsidiary of AU Optronics) of Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan is releasing a new series of mini-LED products ready for mass production, including I-Mini Blue (a smart backlight module integrating flip-chip blue mini-LEDs and a driver IC), which enables high contrast, slim design and competitive cost in panel module assembly (already introduced into applications such as gaming laptop panels). Lextar will also launch pitch 0.7mm UFP I-Mini RGB display as well as micro LED technology. Applications of the whole series will be presented at Touch Taiwan 2019 in the Nankang Exhibition Center (28-30 August).

The latest mini-LED backlighting series covers wide applications including TVs, gaming monitors, laptops, automotive displays and virtual reality (VR), demonstrating Lextar’s speed in deploying mini-LED backlighting applications.

The new I-Mini Blue backlight module realizes new local dimming technology of over 1000 zones, which can precisely control the backlight and achieve dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. The K-zone backlight solution is suitable for applications such as TVs, gaming monitors and laptop. Meanwhile, Lextar is also exhibiting AM (active matrix) mini-LED backlight modules adopting COG (chip on glass) technology. By transferring the blue mini-LED chips on a TFT glass panel, it is possible to achieve local dimming of over 2300 zones on a 2.9” panel. Through this, a small-sized panel can realize a stereopsis with high contrast, suitable for VR applications.

For mini RGB displays, Lextar is introducing a lineup of fine-pitch RGB display modules. The UFP I-mini RGB module, with an ultra-fine pitch of P0.7, featuring high brightness, high contrast, sunlight readability and flexibility in display size, is demonstrated in applications including signage, bus-stop signs, chartplotters, automotive panels, HUDs and tail lights. In addition, Lextar iss also launching a mini RGB LED series, including the 1313 & 2121 with a 4-in-1 fine-pitch design, as well as a single package of 1010 & 1515. Customers can select the most appropriate package according to the viewing distance. The product series is expected to be mass produced by the end of 2019.

At Touch Taiwan 2019, Lextar is also presenting the latest micro-LED display technology, showing a 5.1” AM micro-LED display. By assembling flip-chip micro-LEDs on the transparant glass, the brightness can reach 30,000 nits.
