MACOM launches wideband amplifier spanning 100kHz to 50GHz for 5G test & measurement

MACOM Technology Solutions Holdings Inc of Lowell, MA, USA (which makes semiconductors, components and subassemblies for RF, microwave, millimeter-wave and lightwave applications) has launched the MAAM-011238 wideband distributed amplifier, offered in both bare-die (2.1mm x 1.05mm) and surface-mount packaged (5mm 12-lead SMT) formats. Suitable for use in 5G test & measurement (T&M) equipment, the MAAM-011238 gives system designers the agility to leverage a single amplifier for 5G applications spanning sub-6GHz to mmW frequencies, says the firm.

The MAAM-011238 supports wideband operation from 100kHz up to 50GHz (67.5GHz for the bare-die version) with typical gain of 14dB at 30GHz (15dB bare-die). The input and output are fully matched at 50Ω with typical return loss of 10dB across the band. The overall ease of use is enhanced by utilizing a positive gate bias, eliminating the need for a negative voltage supply and bias sequencer. The MAAM-011238’s integrated power detector further simplifies system designs while preserving valuable board space.

The MAAM-011238 aims to deliver an effective broadband amplifier solution for 5G sub-6GHz to mmW testing. The MAAM-011238 and MAAM-011238-DIE are available to customers now.

MACOM is showcasing its RF portfolio in booth #532 at the IEEE’s International Microwave Symposium (IMS 2019) in Boston, MA, USA (4–6 June), where the firm’s booth features new products optimized for 5G, wireless basestations, radar, T&M and industrial, scientific & medical (ISM) applications.
