InnoLight and Innovium announce interoperability of 400G QSFP-DD FR4 and DR4 optics modules with TERALYNX switch

Innovium Inc of San Jose, CA, USA (a provider of networking switch silicon for data centers) and InnoLight Technology (Suzhou) Ltd (which designs and makes high-speed optical transceivers) have announced interoperability of InnoLight’s 400G QSFP-DD FR4 and DR4 transceivers with Innovium’s 12.8Tbps TERALYNX switch silicon product family – demonstrated live at the Optical Fiber Communications (OFC 2019) Conference & Exhibition in San Diego (5-7 March).

Large-scale data centers in public and private clouds are having a major impact on the IT landscape and are continuing to grow very rapidly, notes Innovium. Further, network traffic in these large-scale data centers is exploding, driven by deployments of artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning, augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR), distributed micro-services/container-based applications, IP storage, 5G and video. Customers are embracing 400G connectivity for higher-scale connectivity, growing bandwidth needs, and power and cost efficiencies, the firm adds.

“There is a significant demand for higher bandwidth in hyper-scale data centers. 400G optical transceivers are being rapidly adopted to scale bandwidth and provide better price performance,” says InnoLight’s chief marketing officer Osa Mok. “We are excited to collaborate with Innovium, a leading provider of 12.8T switch solution and perform interoperability testing of our 400G QSFP-DD FR4 and DR4 transceiver modules with Innovium’s TERALYNX switch silicon,” he adds.

“Innolight has a comprehensive set of 100/400G optical transceiver portfolio for data-center customers,” comments Amit Sanyal, VP of product management & marketing at Innovium. “Innovium, the only provider of a low-latency, programmable 12.8Tbps switch silicon in the market, is excited to partner with InnoLight to offer the industry a robust solution for 400G connectivity that is proven and ready to deploy.”

The TERALYNX product line offers what is claimed to be the fastest 12.8 Terabits/sec throughput while delivering line-rate programmability, large on-chip buffers, breakthrough telemetry, and low latency. TERALYNX supports 10GbE to 400GbE Ethernet and delivers 128 ports of 100GbE, 64 ports of 200GbE or 32 ports of 400GbE in a single device. Innovium’s patented ground-up design in TERALYNX is said to provide advantages in future-proofed programmable switching technology with robust tunneling, low latency, power efficiency and advanced analytics/telemetry that are essential for scaling next-generation data centers.
