EpiValley boosts capacity with another Thomas Swan MOCVD reactor for Blue LEDs

South Korea’s EpiValley Co Ltd has ordered an additional Thomas Swan 30x2 inch CRIUS MOCVD-system from Aixtron AG. It will be installed at EpiValley’s facility in Kwangju City and used for the mass production of gallium nitride (GaN) based high brightness LEDs and will be. Founded in December 1999, EpiValley’s principal products are epiwafers for blue, green, and UV LED and LED chips targeting end-user applications such as mobile phones, displays, car navigation, LCD TV and solid-state illumination. The company has two plants in South Korea, one at its headquarters in Kwangju City and the other in Seongnam City.

EpiValley said: “Having already expanded capacity for LEDs and related products, the market demand now requires us to add further capacity. The state-of-the-art Thomas Swan 30x2 inch CRIUS IC-system will now form a vital part of our ongoing expansion plan. It was a straightforward and logical choice given our good long-term business relationship with Thomas Swan. We have been very satisfied with the excellent reliability, flexibility, uniformity and throughput demonstrated by the Thomas Swan equipment.”

Aixtron recently reported that its Q2/2006 equipment order intake was at its highest level in 5 years, 74% higher than in Q2/2005. See related item.
