Higher-power 405nm blue-violet laser module

Optoelectronics component manufacturer Photonic Products Ltd of Hatfield Broad Oak, UK has launched the PMM608-G 25mW version of its 405nm (blue-violet) Photon laser diode modules with TTL modulation, joining the existing 0.9mW PMM108-4 and 4.0mW PMM208-G versions.

According to the company, the 25mW output power provides higher energy density with a significantly higher signal-to-noise ratio and consequently greater accuracy and sensitivity for biomedical and biochemical analysis applications such as flow cytometry and laser-induced fluorescence sensing, where the objective is to collect as much fluorescent signal as possible.

Designed as a complete laser diode solution for OEMs, the modules are also suitable for use in areas such as food processing, industrial imaging and inspection, spectroscopy, microscopy, medical imaging and other emerging technologies where power, accuracy and sensitivity are vital, says Photonic Products.

The modules produce a stable elliptical 3.5 x 2mm output beam. The glass anti-reflection-coated aspherical lens can be adjusted to produce either a collimated beam or focused spot. The standard lens can be replaced by other optical systems such as line generators.

The TTL modulation inputs accept signals from DC up to 1kHz minimum, and can be used to enable, inhibit or modulate the laser. Operating voltage is 8-12V DC at an operating current of 80mA. Beam divergence is typically <0.6 x 0.3mrad. The operating temperature range is -10 degrees C to +50 degrees C.

The compact modules are cylindrical (12mm diameter x 43mm length) with an optional 25mm mounting flange (the PMMF608-G model) and consist of an aluminium housing, laser diode, drive circuit and collimating lens.
