Skyworks supplies Samsung's migration to EDGE

Skyworks Solutions Inc is supplying handset manufacturer Samsung with its Helios EDGE radio for nearly 20 new models, including the SGH-E770 with expandable memory, the SGH-E900 tri-band fashion handset, the ultra-slim SGH-X820 model, and the SGH-S400i slider.

According to Skyworks, the Helios RF subsystem reduces the radio frequency (RF) board space by half compared to previous designs, and enables advanced multimedia features such as MP3 players, digital cameras, Web browsing, multimedia messaging services (MMS) and video processing.

"Skyworks is delighted to be supporting Samsung through their aggressive ramp of next-generation EDGE handsets with our Helios radio," said Kevin D. Barber, senior vice president and general manager of Mobile Platforms for Skyworks.

LG Electronics and Motorola are among other handset manufacturers also using Skyworks' Helios-based architectures.
