SMI sells converted Emcore D180 nitride reactor

Structured Materials Industries Inc (SMI) has converted an Emcore D180 nitride reactor to deposit oxide (ZnO) films. The reactor has been sold, but the buyer was not named.

Gary Tompa, SMI’s CEO and president, said: “This system conversion marks a continuing trend of converting and upgrading the many surplus MOCVD reactors in the field. SMI has now converted or upgraded systems from Thomas Swan and Emcore, among others. Further, we believe it is good for technology development in general, allowing researchers and producers alike to address new MOCVD markets without incurring the massive costs of buying a whole new MOCVD system.”
