Eblana ships ultra-narrow linewidth, low-noise 1310 and 1550nm lasers

Eblana Photonics Ltd of Dublin, Ireland has started shipping single-wavelength 1310nm and 1550nm laser diodes for analog and other applications demanding ultra-narrow linewidth and low-phase-noise operation.

The latest product series extends Eblana’s existing family of laser products targeting high-volume applications such as GPON, 10GBASE-LR/LRM/LW and 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel.

The new lasers exhibit relative intensity noise (RIN) down to -160dB/Hz and emission linewidths below 100kHz, even at emitted powers as low as 500 microWatts, says the firm.

“This new product family increases the affordability of transceivers and transponders in conventional applications that require ultra-narrow linewidth, low-noise sources such as long-reach (LR)/very-long-reach (VR) spans in metro systems and long-haul (LH) and ultra-long-haul (ULH) systems,” says Daniel Tine, head of North American Sales and Business Development.

Bo Cai, Head of Asian Sales and Business Development adds, “These lasers also make the superior sensitivity and longer transmission span achieved with coherent communications systems a real commercial alternative to WDM-based access systems. They extend our product offering into the analog, CATV, back-haul and coherent WDM spaces, providing distinct advantages to our customers in those increasingly challenging markets.”
