Arima Opto to expand AlGaInP LED chip capacity to 1bn in 2007

Arima Optoelectronics of Taiwan is to increase its AlGaInP LED chip capacity from its current 600m to 1bn in 2007, says the online news source DigiTimes, quoting a report from the Chinese-language Commercial Times. Also, the report adds, the company will double its capacity for blue LEDs to 400m units.

Arima Opto is the second largest supplier of AlGaInP LED chips, after Epistar. In September, Epistar, also of Taiwan, announced that it was to acquire Epitech Technology Corporation, one of the largest suppliers of HB-LEDs, epiwafers and chips in Taiwan, and Highlink Technology Corporation, another maker of HB-LEDs, epiwafers, and chips.
