TriQuint introduces new GaAs products for digital radio and sat-com

TriQuint Semiconductor has introduced the first three members of its new Multi-Function Circuit (MFC) family. The GaAs-based integrated circuits (ICs) are for point-to-point radio and satellite communications applications.

The TGC4405 is a K-band single-balanced upconverter for digital radio and K-band sat-com applications. It features an integrated LO doubler and output post amplifier, providing 13 dB typical conversion gain across the 17-27 GHz RF band, with single-ended signal ports and integrated RF, LO and IF baluns. Other specifications:

  • IF Bandwidth: 0.5 – 3.0 GHz
  • OTOI: 29 dBm (+2 dBm LO drive source)
  • LO Input Power Range: -5 dBm to +5 dBm
  • Bias: 425mA from a +5V supply
  • Die Size: 4.0mm2

Model TGC4402 is a K-band upconverting mixer for digital radio and sat-com applications. It features single-ended signal ports; external RF, LO and IF baluns are not required. Specifications:

  • RF Frequency Range: 17GHz -27GHz
  • Typical Conversion Loss: 9 dB
  • IF Bandwidth: 0.5 – 3.0 GHz
  • ITOI: 18 dBm (from a 17 dBm LO drive source)
  • LO Signal Rejection: -30 dBc
  • Die Size: 2.01mm2

The TGC4403 is a K-band frequency doubler and includes a buffer amplifier. It delivers 20 dBm (typical) output power and 18 dB of gain. Its high conversion gain allows it to operate over a -5 dBm to +5 dBm input power range while consuming only 150mA of quiescent current from a +5V supply. Other specifications:

  • RF Frequency Range: 16GHz -30GHz
  • Gain: 18 dB (doubled output frequency from a +2 dBm, 8-15 GHz input)
  • Fundamental Signal Rejection: Greater than -30 dBc
  • Die Size: 1.82mm2
