Samsung opts for Anadigics’ InGaP-Plus technology

Anadigics Inc of Warren, NJ, USA is shipping multi-mode, multi-band AWT6223 power amplifiers (PAs) to Samsung Electronics for its new SGH-Z620 3G handset. This follows the RFIC maker’s recent announcement that it is supplying Samsung with its HELP2 EV-DO PAs for the SCH-a870 CDMA handset.

Dr Ali Khatibzadeh, senior VP and GM of Wireless Products at Anadigics, said: "Our penta-band 3G power amplifier has set a new benchmark for HSDPA/EDGE performance and integration, enabling mobile devices with impressive features, long talk-time, and sleek design. Our strong 3G product portfolio combined with strategic relationships with tier-one chipset manufacturers continues to drive Anadigics' share in the 3G market upward."

AWT6223 multi-mode 3G PAs utilize the Anadigics’ second-generation High-Efficiency-at-Low-Power (HELP2) technology to reduce WCDMA average power consumption by 50%, says the company. In WCDMA mode, the PAs offer efficiencies of 41% at +28.5 dBm and 21% at +16 dBm. In GSM mode, the PAs provide efficiency of 55% in the GSM850/900 bands and 50% in the DCS/PCS bands.

The new multi-mode PAs are based on the company's InGaP-Plus technology, which integrates HBT and pHEMT devices on the same InGaP GaAs die.
