Korean LED maker Seoul Semiconductor Co Ltd (SSC) has entered into a cross license agreement with TridonicAtco Optoelectronics GmbH of Dornbirn, Austria and its patent partners regarding manufacturing white LEDs using silicate system phosphors.
Since phosphors are indispensable materials for manufacturing white LEDs, white LEDs incorporating silicate system phosphors in particular (which are significantly different from conventional LEDs using other phosphors) are covered by a wide variety of patents.
SSC says that, under the cross license agreement, it is therefore in a very strong position to manufacture and sell its own white LEDs using silicate system phosphors as well as expand and accelerate relevant R&D activities.
