FOREPI considers 4” wafer capability as it ramps capacity with order for ten Aixtron MOCVD systems

Deposition equipment maker Aixtron AG of Herzogenrath, Germany confirmed that Taiwan’s Formosa Epitaxy Inc (FOREPI) ordered ten of its MOCVD systems in Q3/2009.

FOREPI’s latest order is comprised of CRIUS Close Coupled Showerhead systems and AIX 2800G4 HT Planetary Reactor systems. The tools, which will be used to produce ultrahigh brightness (UHB) InGaN-based blue LEDs, will be shipped to FOREPI throughout the course of 2010 and installed alongside the firms existing Aixtron MOCVD systems.

Frank Chien, FOREPI’s president, said: “The reasons for our latest purchase come down to the simple need to add more capacity with high yield equipment as FOREPI ramps up again to meet booming market demand. In addition, we will appreciate various special features of the systems on order. For example, we are considering 4” capability for all new systems. All purchased tools are 4” production capable and will give us a rapid, straightforward route to begin offering 4” wafer preparation.”
