Epilight orders Veeco MOCVD reactors for Shanghai LED fab capacity ramp

Veeco Instruments Inc says that during second-quarter 2010, Shanghai Epilight Technology Company Ltd, one of China’s largest LED makers, placed a multi-tool order for TurboDisc K465i metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) systems for the planned capacity expansion at its high-brightness light-emitting diode (HB-LED) chip fabrication plant.

“We selected Veeco's K465i MOCVD system because of its excellent system design and the good performance in the field,” comments Epilight’s president Wendi Liu. “Given the increased demand for LEDs in such applications as general illumination, TV backlight and outdoor displays, we intend to ramp our production quickly. With a business partner like Veeco, we are confident we can meet the market demand,” he adds.

“We are gratified to have the opportunity to work with Epilight as their MOCVD supplier for their LED production facility ramp,” says Bill Miller, executive VP, general manager of Veeco's MOCVD operations. “The China market will drive significant advancement of the LED industry, and Veeco, as the market-leading equipment provider in China, is well positioned to benefit from this growth,” he reckons.
