MBE systems ramp for alternative energy applications

For its third-quarter 2007, Veeco Instruments Inc of St. Paul, MN, USA says it has received orders for five Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) systems, from undisclosed customers in the U.S., Asia and Europe. The orders were for an R&D GEN930 system, two pilot-production GEN20 systems, and two production GEN200 systems.

According to the company, the systems will be used for R&D and pilot production, for applications ranging from III-V research to novel devices used in alternative energy and lighting.

“The recent ramp in MBE system activity is evidence that Veeco provides a unique value proposition to our customers through our technology, customer support and cost of ownership advantages,” said Jeffrey Hohn, vice president and general manager of Veeco MBE Operations. “We are excited to see MBE technology being adopted for novel material and device requirements such as alternative energy and lighting applications. We will continue to drive growth of our MBE business through further investments in these opportunities.”
