Guerrilla samples broadband gain block, extending amp core from 8GHz to 11GHz
Guerrilla RF Inc (GRF) of Greensboro, NC, USA — which develops and manufactures radio-frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) and monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) for wireless applications — is sampling the GRF2115, an ultra-wideband, high-linearity gain block amplifier that delivers what is said to be an exceptionally flat gain response over a single 50MHz to 11GHz broadband tune.
“The GRF2115 exemplifies our ongoing commitment to enhancing the performance of our industry-leading gain block amplifiers,” says Jim Ahne, VP of marketing. “This latest innovation builds on the success of the GRF2013 [gallium arsenide (GaAs) pseudomorphic high-electron-mobility transistor (pHEMT)], our most popular amplifier with over 15 million units sold to date. With the GRF2115, our design team extended the core’s performance beyond its previous 8GHz limit, offering flatter gain, higher compression, and superior linearity through 11GHz — all critical parameters for applications in test & measurement, satcom, aeronautical telemetry, radar, ISM [industrial, scientific & medical], WiFi 6E, and 5G.”
When operated at its midpoint of 5GHz, the device delivers 17dB of gain, 21.8dBm of OP1dB compression, 35.3dBm of OIP3 linearity, and a low noise figure of 1.8dB (as measured on the device’s standard evaluation board; de-embedded NF values are about 0.2dB lower).
As with most of GRF’s amplifier cores, the GRF2115 has a flexible biasing architecture allowing for customizable tradeoffs in linearity and power consumption. Supply voltages can vary between 3V and 6V, although most customers will elect to use a standard 5V supply with 130mA of biasing current.
The GRF2115 utilizes Guerilla RF’s 2mm x 2mm DFN-8 package, following an industry standard in both pinout and footprint.
Samples and evaluation boards are available for the GRF2115. Prices start at $1.76 (10,000-up, EXW USA).
