Lumentum earns EcoVadis Platinum Medal for third consecutive year

Lumentum Holdings Inc of San Jose, CA, USA (which designs and makes optical and photonic products for optical networks and lasers for industrial and consumer markets) has earned the EcoVadis Platinum Medal for a third consecutive year — representing the highest level of recognition for sustainability performance, and reflecting its “culture of continuous improvement and accountability in our approach to sustainability,” says Misha Rozenberg, executive VP & chief operations and quality officer.

Lumentum remains in the top 1% of companies assessed by EcoVadis over the past year, with its overall score rising from 80 to 83. The firm demonstrated improvement in the categories of Environment, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. EcoVadis medals are awarded based on the percentile rank of a company compared to the performance of all rated companies.

“Over the past year, our teams remained laser focused on our sustainability goals — achieving greater emissions reductions and expanding renewable energy adoption across our global operations,” says Rozenberg.

Lumentum says that upholding the highest standards of environmental, social and ethical governance is one of the top priorities. Recent environmental accomplishments include:

  • reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions by 38% in fiscal year 2024 compared with fiscal 2023, despite a company acquisition;
  • increased procurement of renewable electricity to 79% in fiscal 2024, up from 61% in fiscal 2023;
  • began solar power generation at two major sites in fiscal 2024: Navanakorn, Thailand and San Jose, California, USA;
  • received approval for its near-term (2030) and long-term (2050) greenhouse-gas emissions reduction targets from the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in fiscal 2025.

As a global standard for business sustainability ratings, the EcoVadis assessment evaluates 21 sustainability criteria across four core categories: Environment; Labor & Human Rights; Ethics; and Sustainable Procurement. More than 100,000 companies globally have been rated by EcoVadis.

EcoVadis’ business sustainability ratings are based on international sustainability standards such as the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

EcoVadis will be planting a tree on behalf of Lumentum to celebrate the firm’s achievement through its partnership with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation.
