VTEC Lasers and Sensors becomes a shareholder in Spectrik

Spectrik of Eindhoven, The Netherlands is taking further steps in developing photonic gas sensors for agricultural applications by partnering with Eindhoven-based VTEC Lasers and Sensors B.V.

As well as affirming trust between the supply chain partners, the strategic partnership is said to show the firms’ confidence in the potential of gas sensors for livestock applications to positively impact the agricultural sector and beyond. VTEC has also become a shareholder in Spectrik.

Founded in 2023, Spectrik graduated in 2024 from HighTechXL’s deep-tech venture-building program when they officially became an investor-ready startup. Spectrik specializes in valorization of integrated photonics, with a primary focus on bringing a multi-gas sensor to the market for the livestock sector in order to solve the nitrogen crisis.

Founded in 2011, VTEC brings years of expertise in both product development as well as laser and sensor technology. Specifically, VTEC Lasers & Sensors specializes in developing both ready-made products and custom solutions in photonics and the Internet of Things (IoT) for industries including telecoms, smart buildings, green energy, and environmental monitoring. The firm integrates technologies such as sensors, machine learning, IoT and big-data to create tailored systems.

VTEC will help Spectrik to accelerate the development and scaling of advanced solutions in this technology for the agriculture sector and beyond. “We are thrilled to be even more involved with the excellent progress of Spectrik of converting the ammonia gas sensor technology into applications that the world and especially the Netherlands is waiting for,” says VTEC’s CEO Jan Mink.

“VTEC delivers in terms of high-quality, fast-iteration-cycle, no-nonsense engineering in an open collaboration,” comments Spectrik’s chief technology officer & co-founder Floris van Nyendaal. “We are grateful for VTEC’s confidence in Spectrik and its long-term commitment towards us,” adds CEO & co-founder Rick Jongen.

The next step in the collaboration  is to prepare commercial pilots to begin large-scale field tests with prototypes that are designed for high-volume production.

With this platform technology, tailored to a full solution for the livestock sector, Spectrik is preparing to develop more solutions with their technology as an application company.
